What are we Doing?
FUNDRAISING Over the Fall semester, Cal Rotaract Internal Board officers are fundraising through restaurants and private donations to buy supplies for Betty's 20 high school seniors off to college. With a goal of raising upwards of $1000 for Betty, we hope to learn more about the issues facing homeless individuals and to work closely with Betty to discover how we as individuals and a club can help. If you would like to aid our cause, you are welcome to donate items to the Betty Kwan Chinn Day Center or donate to our GoFundMe account for Betty through the button below.
ITEM DRIVE All funds raised by Cal Rotaract are going directly back to the Betty Kwan Chinn Homeless Foundation in the from of personalized backpacks for her 20 high school seniors. One of Betty's Day Center programs involves helping homeless teens through high-school. Every morning, Betty picks them up, feeds them, gives them a place to shower, and then takes them to school. Betty always brings them to her conference room so that they can see that that environment is what their future looks like-full of hope, professional, a better life. Each of these personalized backpacks will be full of school supplies, toiletries, and every day items many of us take for granted. In addition, each student will receive a small gift card. Members will personally pack items for the students with the hopes that they'll be able to use these products to feel confident about their next life adventure as well as alleviate any academic hardships.
INTERNAL BOARD OFFICERS Cal Rotaract has eight internal board officers: Internal Vice President, Co-Historians, Design Chair, Human Relations Chair, Webmaster, and Co-Treasurers. Each officer has an unique set of skills that they will be offering to Betty through various ways. Officers will work closely with Betty to learn how her organization works, who she's serving, and how they can best help. Some examples of officer projects include: grants and scholarships for low income students, college financial aid how to's, how to manage a budget, how to improve the Day Center services, connecting Betty with more volunteer organizations, streamlining the website for easier use, redesigning flyers and creating infographics, and much more. We're all very excited to have the opportunity to work with such an inspiring person!
